UAE to Generate 6% of Its Power from Nuclear Energy

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) achieved a significant milestone in its nuclear energy journey by connecting the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant to the grid in 2020. This milestone marks a major step forward in the UAE's commitment to diversify its energy mix and reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. The Barakah plant, located in the western region of Abu Dhabi, consists of four nuclear reactors and is expected to have a combined capacity of 5,600 megawatts once fully operational.

The successful connection of the Barakah plant to the grid showcases the UAE's dedication to developing a sustainable and reliable nuclear energy infrastructure. The plant's operation adheres to the highest international safety standards, and the UAE has been working closely with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to ensure the safe and responsible utilization of nuclear energy.

The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant will contribute significantly to the UAE's energy goals. As part of its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, the UAE aims to transition 6% of its energy consumption to nuclear.
